Martin Luther King Speech~Poverty
Would you just stand there and watch a poor innocent child die because they don't have the necessities of life? Would you just stand there and see helpless adults try and keep their children alive through the winter without success? Just because you don't see this, doesn't mean this horrid matter isn't there! We need to get up and do something productive about this sad matter of poverty!
Look at Africa, for instance. They don't even have the luxury of having clean, fresh water. Us, U.S. citizens take this for granted every single day, and the number of emaciated children has risen a terribly sad amount in the past decade! Coming back to the United States, we don't provide a lot of opportunities to get the homeless into a better state, either. For one to get a good wage, you have to have an address. People that are homeless obviously do not have an address. Our economy isn't doing well either, that's probably another reason for a large percentage of people getting laid off. When people get laid off, a lot of people start to loose their houses' and end up on the street because there not making any kind of income. This, then, increases the number of people living in poverty.
Yes, poverty is a VERY depressing matter that has left thousands, even millions, of people on the street, worldwide, begging for food and money. Make sure you think about the hungry, and scared little children that don't even know if they'll even get enough food to keep themselves alive. You never know, your brother, your sister, or even your own children could be the next to end up in poverty!
Poor Little Kids!
Oh!!! It is so sad. You really did a good job giving examples. When I read this all I could think about was those commercials for food drives and things like that. And how yeah I don't see this stuff everyday but it goes on everywhere and I am very fortunate to have a nice house, a nice school, things I like to do and can do, like swimming, and not worry about finding food for my family. Also a couple of years ago my grandma sent my family an email saying she bought us desks for kids in Africa instead of giving us a Christmas present. At first my brother was mad but I explained why they needed it and then he was really glad and he actually started bragging that he gave a desk to some kids in Africa.
ReplyDeleteVery well done speech! It shocked and scared me, the picture also tugged at my heart strings. It's hard to think about a subject like this and you presented it nicely. When you presented it you had the right posture and demeanor. (You also didn't smile!). The last sentence made me think, good job.
ReplyDeleteI thought you did a really job on your speech, Julia! I really liked how all the way through, you were constantly saying how sad poverty is and how millions of people are in poverty. I also really liked your opening and closing. I thought the pictures was a nice touch, it really is sad to see what it's like to be in poverty and poor health. Good job!
ReplyDeleteGood Job Julia! I'm not sure if you were trying to make us feel like we were watching one those commercials that shows the kittens and puppies that are starving and don't have homes, but you sure made me feel like I was. The pictures really pushed your point home.
